GALLERY: MHSAA Cheer championships

Some of the state's top high school cheer squads visited McGurik Arena, March 2 and 3, to battle it out for the divisions 1 through 4 state cheer championships. The Michigan High School Athletic Association competitive cheer season began Nov. 7.

CMU Program Board hosts stand-up comedian LeClerc Andre to perform Tuesday, Feb. 28 in Sarah and Daniel Opperman Auditorium. Andre appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in 2018, as well as Bring the Funny in 2019.

GALLERY: Men's Basketball vs Toledo

CMU Men's basketball loses 99-65 on senior night to Toledo on Tuesday, Feb. 28 in McGuirk Arena. This loss brings their record to 5-11 in the MAC, and puts them in 9th place in the MAC standings.

GALLERY: Student Art Show

Guests admire art at the Annual Juried CMU Student Art Exhibition Awards in the University Art Gallery, Saturday, Feb. 25. Awards included 3 Juror's awards, 6 Merit Awards, 3 Honorable Mentions, and a Public Choice Award that is yet to be determined. 

GALLERY: OBU Fashion Show

The Organization for Black Unity, ‘OBU,’ hosts the 23rd annual fashion show, Saturday, Feb. 25, in Plachta Auditorium. Per OBU’s Instagram, the organization states that they are ‘dedicated to providing a cultural experience through fashion.’

GALLERY: CMU VS Northern Illinois

CMU's men's basketball team fell to Northern Illinois 84-80 Saturday, Feb. 25 in McGuirk Arena. CMU drops 10-19 overall, but their eighth place Mid-American Conference ranking remains freshman guard Reggie Bass leading the team with 40 points. Bass' 21 free throws broke the schools former record of 19 free throws made in a game.

GALLERY: Winter Storm

A winter storm came through Mount Pleasant, dropping many inches of snow on CMU's campus, Wednesday, Feb. 22, on the campus of Central Michigan University. Due to the snow and ice, all classes and meetings after 4 pm were cancelled by the university.

SGA holds a meeting where it recognized the tragedy at MSU and discussed the student-operated organization SAPA on Monday, Feb. 20 in the UC Auditorium. 

GALLERY: Wrestling vs. Michigan State

CMU's wrestling team fell to Michigan State 20-13 Friday, Feb. 17 in McGuirk Arena. The loss brings CMU's overall record to 6-9. This was the team's last home dual of the season, making CMU's home record 3-2. CMU honored seniors Mason Breece, Ben Cushman, Tracy Hubbard and Corbyn Munson during senior night festivities before the dual.  

GALLERY: MSU Shooting Protest

In honor of the victims from the Michigan State University shooting and other mass shootings, CMU students and faculty gather together to peacefully protest to end gun violence Friday, Feb. 17 on the campus of Central Michigan University. The protest started on the CMU Botanical Garden Lawn and ended at Wesley Church.

CMU Program Board hosts a puzzle decorating event, Friday, Feb. 17, Office of Student Activities and Involvement. This event allowed students to start off their Friday being creative.

GALLERY: CMU Candlelight Vigil

People gather in support of the Michigan State University shooting to honor the victims with a candlelight vigil Wednesday, Feb. 15, at the Central Michigan University Seal outside of Warriner Hall. Candle lighting began at 8:18 which was the time that the first shots were fired, and supporters and survivors were encouraged to speak about their experiences. 

GALLERY: CMU Solidarity Gathering

CMU students and faculty stand together at the solidarity gathering for Michigan State University on Wednesday, Feb. 15 in Finch Fieldhouse. SGA members spoke and led the gathering where students shared personal stories and insight about the shooting at Michigan State University, and musical performances were held in honor of the tragedy.

CMU Women's basketball defeats Miami (Ohio) 83-80 on Wednesday, Feb. 15 in McGuirk Arena. This win brings their overall record to 6-18, and Miami (Ohio's) overall record to 9-17.

Love Local featuring Idli Dosa is located in Central Eats Wednesday, Feb. 15, in the Bovee University Center. Idli Dosa features Indian Food and will be in the UC from February 7 to February 23.  

GALLERY: MSU community grieves after shooting

Michigan State University students gather around the Spartan Statue on Feb. 14 after a mass shooting took place Monday night on campus in East Lansing. Campus and community members took turns placing flowers on the statue as they grieved and honored those affected by the shooting.

GALLERY: Black Leaders Who Create Change

Hosted by junior Malcolm Vinson and freshman Vincent Vargas, Black Leaders Who Create Change is an event that talks about leaders in the Black Community that have made a huge impact on society Monday, Feb. 13, in Kulhavi Hall. This is an event for Black History Month with more events coming in February.
