WISHes & Vision Boards

Central Michigan University's W.I.S.H. RSO hosts an event for students to come together with friends and create vision boards for the New Year on Monday, Dec. 2 in the EHS building.

In celebration of Native American Heritage Month, Central Michigan's Office of Indigenous Affairs ends the month with an Indigenous storytime on Monday, Nov. 25, in the Park Library. The event was set to be in the Strosacker room until it had to be moved to the Sarah and Daniel Opperman Auditorium due to a tremendous turnout. The event featured snacks and a storytime of four chosen children's books written by Indigenous authors, read by the director and student assistants from the Office of Student Affairs to discuss topics like Native American culture and the common challenges that Indigenous communities face.

Gymnastics Maroon & Gold Intrasquad

The Central Michigan gymnastics team held the Maroon and Gold Intrasquad meet on Monday, Nov. 25, at McGuirk Arena. Last year CMU had an 11-8 record, going 4-2 in MAC play. Their first meet of the season will be on the road against Minnesota on Saturday, Jan. 4.

Women's Basketball vs. Oakland

The Central Michigan women's basketball team lost against Oakland 76-65 on Sunday, Nov. 24, at McGuirk Arena. Senior guard Jess Lawson was CMU's leading scorer and rebounder with 14 points and eight rebounds. Oakland was led by junior guard Maddy Skorupski who had a career-high 28 points to go along with eight steals and six rebounds. CMU moves to 0-4 on the season and plays their next match on Friday, Nov. 29 against Nevada.

Volleyball vs Ball State MAC Tournament

Central Michigan's women's volleyball team fell 2-3 to Ball State in a semifinal game of the MAC tournament, Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Stroh Center, Bowling Green, OH. After trailing 0-2, CMU came back winning the third and fourth sets only to fall short in the fifth set, losing 9-15. After the game, CMU fans cheered for the team, celebrating its season and senior players Aly Gurtiza, Krystina Kasson, Lauren Schrock, Linnea Willer and Emma Ducate. CMU ended the season as the No. 2 seed in the MAC, with final records of 15-3 in conference play and 24-7 overall.

Late Night Fall Fest

CMU Program Board, Student Government Association and Residence Housing Association host Fire Up All Night: Late Night Fall Fest on Saturday, Nov. 23, in the Student Activity Center from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. For the first time, SAI has encouraged Registered Student Organizations to contribute their creative ideas to Fire Up All Night. With the SAC open after hours students could swim to a movie, dance at a silent disco and play with the inflatable games.

Glam & Go

The CMU program board hosts a Glam & Go makeup bag decorating event where students come together to decorate bags and choose from a limited selection of self-care items on Thursday, Nov. 21 in Powers Hall. The event reached full capacity minutes after the doors were opened.

Let's Talk About Sex, Baby!

The Central Michigan University Feminists For Change organization put on a Let's Talk About Sex, Baby! event on Thursday, Nov. 21 in the Bovee University Center Rotunda. Students came to this event and played games, ate food and gained community with other students. This event had three rooms, two of which were for presentations about safe sex, and the other was used for clubs to set up booths and games to raise awareness and educate fellow students on the importance of sexual health.

Make-A-Pitch Competition

Central Michigan students from all majors were welcome to compete at the Make-A-Pitch Competition on Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Park Library. Students presented two minute ideas to a small panel of judges for feedback and then went into final rounds of pitches in front of an audience. Students could compete for awards up to $1,200 or compete in the all-new Passion Project category.

Men's Basketball vs Central State

Central Michigan men's basketball team beat Central State 86-52 on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at McGuirk Arena. Senior guard Anthony Pritchard led CMU with 18 points and junior guard Damarion Bonds recorded 13 points and eight rebounds. The team moves to 3-2 overall and plays their next game against Minnesota on Monday, Nov. 25.

Football vs Western Michigan Feature

Central Michigan beat rivals Western Michigan 16-14 on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at Kelly/Shorts Stadium. This is CMU's first win since Sept. 28 and first win against Western at home since 2010. CMU had 307 total yards, holding WMU to 184. This is the first time CMU has held their opponents under 200 total yards this season. Senior running back Marion Lukes had 93 rushing yards on 15 attempts. The last game of the season is against Northern Illinois on Saturday, Nov. 30.

Cossettes Live Performance

Central Michigan University's Park Library presents a multi-sensory solo exhibition, Cossettes on Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the Baber Room Gallery. The exhibition was created by Jacklyn Brickman, and it explores the sugar beet processing blending agriculture, microbiology, technology, and performance into an immersive experience. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with the sugar beet and create sounds through electrical signals.

Women's Basketball vs Bradley

The Central Michigan women's basketball team lost against Bradley 66-57 on Sunday, Nov. 17, at McGuirk Arena. CMU senior Jessenia Lawson led the team with nine points and eight rebounds. CMU is now 0-3 on the season and their next game is on Sunday, Nov. 24, against Oakland. Historically CMU is 8-9 against Oakland and their last win came in 2019.

Cocoa, Crafts and Beading

Multicultural Academic Student Services hosts their annual Native American Heritage Month event of Cocoa, Crafts and Beading on Friday, Nov. 15 in the Center for Student Inclusion and Diversity. The event featured hot cocoa, snacks and an educational short lecture from Kasey Perez, the Director of the Office of Indigenous Affairs, to promote culture on campus and bring awareness to Indigenous issues.

Wrestling vs. Indiana

The Central Michigan University Wrestling Team lost to No. 30 Indiana 16-17 on tie-breaker criteria on Friday, Nov. 15, at McGuirk Arena. Redshirt junior Bryan Caves defeated No. 21 Jacob Bullock, 7-2, in the last match to tie the score at 16-16. CMU would then lose based on match points 59-51. Their next meet will be the Keystone Classic on Sunday, Nov. 24.

Media Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

Central Michigan University College of the Arts and Media presents the Media Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony recognizing Barbara Roethler, Peter B. Orlik, Susan Rozman Delia, Tom Caylor, Eduardo Fernandez and Rich Robinson. Alumni and supporters came together to celebrate each other on Saturday, Nov. 16 in the Bovee UC Rotunda.

Advising and Pizza

The Central Michigan University School of Politics, Society, Justice & Public Service hosts students to learn about internships as well as sign majors, minors and certificates while being provided with pizza on Wednesday, Nov. 13 in Anspach Hall.

Tia Wood

Singer Tia Wood came to Central Michigan University to perform some of her songs for students and the community, Wednesday, Nov. 13, in Plachta Auditorium. She preformed many of her own songs along with some songs her father produced that made her feel closer to home. She explained her life story and how she got into music at a young age as well as how important her heritage is to her.

Decolonizing Design

Distinguished design anthropologist Dr. Elizabeth Dori Tunstall visits Central Michigan University to give insight on her book "Decolonizing Design: A Cultural Justice Guidebook" on Tuesday, Nov. 12 in Opperman Auditorium.
