Pitch Practice Night

CMU students and faculty gather for Pitch Practice Night, where students had the opportunity to practice and receive feedback from judges on their business pitch ahead of the Make-A-Pitch Competition, Monday, Dec. 4, in the Grawn Hall Atrium. The Make-A-Pitch Competition will be held Tuesday, Dec. 5, in the Grawn Hall Atrium. 

Chorography Showcase

CMU's Infusion Dance Team hosted the Infusion United Choreography Showcase, highlighting departing seniors, on Sunday, Dec. 2, at the Holiday Inn. The showcase also had Club Hip Hop and Appeal Dance Team perform with Infusion. 

Christmas Celebration

Mount Pleasant hosted a downtown Christmas Celebration, with a parade full of floats covered in sparkling lights that brought the Mount Pleasant community together on Saturday, Dec. 2. The celebration started at 6 p.m. with the Christmas parade beginning at the First United Methodist Church, and ending on Michigan Street.  

Student Choreography Showcase Dress Rehearsal

Central Michigan University Department of Theater and Dance hosts the 2023 Dance Studies Major and Dance Minor Student Choreography Showcase Dress Rehearsal Saturday, Dec. 2 in Bush Theater. The performance for the showcase was later in the afternoon that day as a free event. All 10 dances were choreographed completely by students and danced by CMU students and led by artistic director, James Wallace.  

CMU Women's Basketball Vs Indiana State

Central Michigan's women's basketball team fell to Indiana State 73-65, Saturday, Dec. 2 in McGuirk Arena. Graduate student forward Nadége Jean led the team with 17 points and went 6-6 on the free-throw line. The game was CMU Athletic's Holiday Hoops game. Santa was there to take pictures during the event. There was also an ugly sweater contest, a Christmas ornament giveaway and a Toys for Tots drive. CMU's team signed autographs after the game. The team's overall record dropped to 1-5. 

Holidays Around the World

Holidays Around the World, an event showing how different countries and cultures celebrate the holidays, was held Wednesday, Nov. 29 in the Bovee University Center. The event drew a large number of people and had food tasting, dances, music, cultural games and more.  

CMU VS Toledo

Central Michigan's football team lost to Toledo 32-17 during their last game of the season, Friday, Nov. 24 at Kelly/Shorts Stadium. The Black Friday game ended the season with 5-7 and within the Mid-American Conference 3-5. Redshirt sophomore Jase Bauer completed 57% of his passes during the season.

In Shepherd, Joe and Barb Rogers have turned a lifelong love of animals and wildlife into a rescue and release mission. The couple founded Wildlife Recovery Association, a center that focuses on the preservation of habitat and rehabilitation of raptors and birds of prey. (CM Life photos | Ella Miller)

Laurie Hernandez Speech

Olympian and author Laurie Hernandez shared her speech 'From Dreamer to Champion' as part of CMU's Speaker Series, Sunday, Nov. 19 in Plachta Auditorium. Hernandez met with VIP guests before the event for a pre-show Q&A and meet and greet. In her speech, Hernandez spoke about dealing with injuries, burnout, imposter syndrome, an 'anxiety goblin' named Steve, and life after sports. Hernandez emphasized the importance to rest, saying we all wear different hats, remember to take them off.   

Swap and Shop

Swap and Shop, a used clothing and item swap event, took place Sunday, Nov. 19 in Finch Fieldhouse. The event was organized by CMU students Evie Dunnigan, Peter Overgaard, Amelia Klosowski and Owen Taggart for their Planning Recreation Programs and Events class. The event aimed to promote sustainability and upcycling, and profits were donated to Clothing INC, a non-profit that provides clothing and support to people in need. 

Shepherd Arts and Craft Show

The annual Shepherd Arts and Crafts Show took place Saturday, Nov. 18 at Shepherd High School. The school's gymnasium filled with over 80 booths selling a variety of handmade goods including jewelry, candles, food, clothing and more.

Hype Fight Show

Central Michigan's Hypothetical Fistfight perform skits generated by the audience at their last show of the semester, "I Never Learned Object Permanence," Friday, Nov. 17, in Moore, room 101 from 7 p.m. to 8p.m. Hype Fight is CMU's award-winning and long-formed improv team that has been holding auditions and performing for the university for years.   

Tableau Turbocharge

The RSO Student User Group (SAP) hosted Tableau Turbocharge, a workshop focusing on data visualization and networking among other data enthusiasts, Wednesday, Nov. 15, in Grawn Hall. The Tableau workshop was open to all, regardless of experience, and encouraged mistakes and mistakes during the learning process.  

Shepherd Organic Produce & Poultry LLC

Tyler and Hannah Shepherd started their organic farm, Shepherd Organic Produce & Poultry LLC, in Hemlock, Michigan five years ago. As their product range has grown over the years, so have their plans with the farm's future. 

Hurt People, Hurt People

Central Michigan students from all over campus came to Anspach room 161 for L.e.g.a.C club’s fourth event. On Wednesday, Nov. 15, Hurt People, Hurt People was put on to help young students navigate conversations surrounding the topic of trauma. 

Volleyball VS Eastern

Central Michigan volleyball closes out the season against Eastern Michigan 3-2, Wednesday, Nov. 15, in McGuirk Arena. Sophomore setter Claire Ammeraal lead the game with a total of 51 assists and junior libero/defensive specialist Aly Gurtiza with a total of 26 digs. in the final game of the season, Central Michigan ended the season 9-9 in the Mid-American Conference and 15-15 overall.

Soup and Substance

The Office for Institutional Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Office of Indigenous Affairs hosts a Soup and Substance event, Wednesday, Nov. 15, in the Bovee UC Rotunda. Speakers Bonnie Sprague, Melissa Mullard, Gina Borushko and Brian Smith gave a presentation on marketing for diverse Native American businesses.

Central Michigan University President Bob Davies gives the 2023 State of the University Address Thursday, Nov. 16 in Plachta Auditorium. Davies discusses a new mission statement and four new principles the university will be following. Following the event, guests were encouraged to enjoy refreshments and mingle with one another in the upper level of Warriner Hall.

FLOC Visits Karma Kat Cafe

Feminist Leaders on Campus, FLOC, and other volunteers dedicated their time to help clean Karma Kat Cafe before the business opened, Sunday, Nov. 12, at Karma Kat Cafe. Volunteers helped clean the visiting area as well as spent time with the cats.
