BREAKING: Akua Acheampong wins SGA presidential race, six other positions confirmed

From April 7 to 11, the Central Michigan University student body had the opportunity to vote for their next executive board members of the Student Government Association for the 2025-26 academic year.
Current president Carolina Hernandez Ruiz and current vice president Aashka Barot ran against current treasurer Akua Acheampong and current Sustainability Committee chair Kathyrn House for next year's president and vice president positions.
Around 2 p.m on Saturday, April 12, it was announced on SGA and CMU's Office of Student Activities and Involvement social media pages that Acheampong's campaign won the election. Acheampong, House and their treaurer pick Carnell Poindexter III were all elected to their respective positions.
Additionally, some elected positions in the judicial and legislative branches were also announced, including:
- Jose Medina, Associate Justice
- Akshaya Baitinti, Associate Justice
- Suhani Bam Thakuri, Senator
- Hisham Danoun, Senator
On Acheampong's campaign social media page, the team acknowledged the win and expressed their gratitude.
"Akua is honored to serve and grateful for the support of every student who voted, showed up, and believed in the campaign," the post caption reads. "She is ready to lead with vision, integrity, and a deep commitment to student empowerment."
Hernandez Ruiz also commented on the win on her personal social media page, saying she received over 600 votes and was grateful for the support she received.
"During this year I have had an amazing experience being president and connecting with so many students and implementing meaningful changes at this university," she wrote on her Instagram story. "Always remember that no matter what people say, none can take away your achievements ... To the new elected SGA members, congratulations! I hope you make the most of it, and represent the student body to the best of your abilities."
