Student Government Association Speaker of the House Christian Dunn submitted his letter of resignation to every member of the organization Thursday morning, April 3. This will be effective at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 8.

Dunn, in the resignation letter, wrote that he is leaving because of the "unprofessional" conduct of SGA leadership.

"Since the start of this administration, I have faced hostility from the SGA president," the letter reads. The letter was also posted on his personal social media. "Leadership should not make individuals feel unheard, unvalued, or reduced to tears."

He sent the letter through the SGA's email chain, which includes over 200 people.

SGA President Carolina Hernandez Ruiz said Dunn had plenty of opportunities over the course of the academic year to voice his concerns to her or to the organization's advisor, but did not.

"There are more than enough resources on campus and within SGA to address his concerns," she said. "I'm very saddened that he had to leave like this without actually talking. He never set up a meeting with me about anything. He never let me know his thoughts or his concerns."

In an interview with CM Life, Dunn stated that resigning was the only way he thought his concerns would be heard.

His resignation comes less than a week before voting opens for SGA executive leadership positions for the 2025-26 academic year. Hernandez Ruiz is running for re-election against Akua Acheampong, who currently serves as SGA's Treasurer.

Hernandez Ruiz said that the letter, and subsequent social media conversations, are probably going to impact the success of her campaign.

"He shares that he did not endorse the other campaign, but from that to put the other (candidate) down?" she said. "I was shocked."

Dunn said he is transitioning into the university's Program Board, as their new vice president of development.

He said that he would consider returning to SGA if Hernadez Ruiz loses the election, but said in the resignation letter that his comments about Hernandez Ruiz were not an endorsement of any candidate.

"If (Hernandez Ruiz) wins, it's completely off the table," Dunn said. "But if (Acheampong) wins, I will consider it. I don't know what my role would be within it, but I would consider it."
