In the bottom of the sixth inning in game two of a three game series with the Ohio Bobcats, Central Michigan softball led by three with two runners on base as CMU outfielder Jenna Kuzara stepped to the plate.

Kuzara ripped a single right up the middle, bringing in both runners to push the game out of reach for Ohio, capturing the 7-2 victory in game two.

Despite the dominant performance in the second game, the Chippewas came up short in the first and third games of the series, causing CMU to fall to 24-22 on the season and 16-7 in Mid-American Conference play.

Game 1

The first game of the series started with Ohio loading the bases with two outs in the top of the second inning.

That is when back-to-back base hits up the gap in the middle from CiCi Keidel and Brenna Farmer allowed the Bobcats to grab a 3-0 lead as CMU struggled to get out of the inning.

The Chippewas found their momentum at the plate in the bottom of the third, loading the bases with two outs.

That is when London Williams forced a walk off of a full count, allowing a runner to reach home to cut the deficit to two as the inning ended.

Ohio once again found its offense in the top of the sixth inning as Lauren Yuhas hit a triple to put herself on third base. She quickly reached home plate after another single from Keidel, extending the Bobcats lead back to three.

Central Michigan responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth but left three runners stranded on base as the inning closed, sealing the game for Ohio who closed out the 4-2 win in game one.

Game 2

The second game started slow, with both teams routinely leaving runners stranded on offense as both teams struggled to swing the bats consistently.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the squad from Mount Pleasant found an opportunity to bring in a run when Kuzara hit a single back to the pitcher's mound, allowing the runner on third to cross home plate to take 1-0 lead.

The momentum from the run carried over to the sixth inning, when CMU wasted no time putting a runner on first and second base as Rachel Cairo stepped into the batter's box.

Cairo belted a single up the middle, bringing home a run to make the game 2-0.

The Chippewas quickly faced two outs in the sixth inning, but that did not deter the team in maroon and gold, who scored five more runs by the end of the inning, jumping out to a 7-0 lead.

The Bobcats put two runs on the board in the top of the seventh in hopes of a potential late rally, but CMU quickly snuffed out the hopes of a come from behind win and closed the game out, winning 7-2.

Mackenzie Langan is the Chippewa pitcher who was given credit for the win, advancing her season record to 12-8.

Game 3

The third game started quickly, with the squad from Ohio bringing in two runs in the top of the first inning before CMU could force its first out.

Central Michigan closed out the inning, but not before allowing one extra run, giving the Bobcats a 3-0 lead after its first trip to the plate.

The Chippewas struggled to get anything going on offense, going three-up and three-out in the first four innings, not registering a single hit.

The team from Mount Pleasant seemed to have found its stride on offense in the bottom of the fifth, starting the inning out with back-to-back singles, but the Bobcats quickly strung together three outs to close the inning.

Ohio tacked on three runs towards the end of the game, making the final score 6-0 as the Bobcats steal the series from the Chippewas in the final game.

CMU is back at Margo Jonker stadium at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30 as it plays host to Detroit Mercy.
