WISH to host 'Hidden Figures' movie night for Women's History Month

The Women's Initiative of Strength & Hope (WISH) and Men About Change are teaming up to host a special movie night in celebration of Women's History Month. The event will feature a screening of “Hidden Figures," a film highlighting the true story of three Black women who played pivotal roles at NASA during the 1950s and 1960s.
Marayla Cross, program coordinator for WISH, shared the inspiration behind the event.
“We wanted to find something to do for Women’s History Month, and we thought a movie night would be a great idea,” Cross said. “ ‘Hidden Figures’ is a wonderful film about the triumphant true story of three Black women at NASA.”
Cross said the event is meant to offer students the chance to relax while learning about the historical contributions of Black women in STEM. Attendees will also be invited to participate in a discussion following the screening.
“If students are willing, we will have a discussion, after, about the importance of the movie and what we gained from the event,” Cross said.
The event is scheduled for 5-7 p.m. Monday in Kulhavi 146, and will be held through the Multicultural Academic Student Services Office. Cross said snacks, including popcorn, granola bars, water and juice, will be provided. Students can RSVP through Engage Central, and the event is free and open to everyone.
For those interested in learning more about the experiences of Black women in history while enjoying a community-focused gathering, Cross said this movie night provides an engaging and educational opportunity. Cross said attendees are encouraged to bring a friend or roommate and join the discussion.
