'Heart Eyes' makes my heart sink

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! This holiday season has a variety of movies to take your dates to this year, such as "Crazy Stupid Love" or "10 Things I hate About You". For today, there's one movie I'd like to focus on, which is "Heart Eyes."

The movie is about the co-workers for a beauty company, Ally (Olivia Holt) and Jay (Mason Gooding), who get mistaken for a couple by the Heart Eyes Killer and must try to survive the holiday night while also falling in love.

"Heart Eyes" is as mediocre as slashers get. I really wanted to like this movie as I was anticipating it's release since I heard about the plot. When I attended the movie, I was greeted with bizarre acting and cheap comedy that barely got a chuckle out of me.

I really liked Gooding's character. He was an interesting red herring for the film, and I love Gooding's acting. Holt was also good as Ally, if not a bit flat delivery-wise. She was a fun final girl and had a really bad ass scene involving a statue.

The killer reveal was disappointing and predictable. I also didn't like the alibi or the explanation to why they did it. It felt pretentious and unrealistic. The kills performed by the killer were top notch though. Seems that most of the budget went towards the good stuff at least.

Overall, I'm disappointed that I don't have much more to say about the movie itself. It was a turn-your-brain-off kind of movie with a basic plot and neat kills. I'd give it a 6.5/10. Stay safe and again, Happy Valentine's Day everyone!
