With time dwindling on the game clock late in the fourth quarter, freshman guard Madi Morson attempted a final three-point attempt to keep the Chippewas in the game.

Morson’s shot did not bring points for the Chippewas and Bowling Green got a rebound to end the back-and-forth battle between Central Michigan and the Falcons.

Central Michigan women’s basketball fell to Bowling Green State University 76-69 Saturday afternoon.

“We got to be able to finish the game,” head coach Kristin Haynie said. “We started out well and then each quarter, we just kind of got a little relaxed…for the most part all of the third quarter was just not as intense as it was in the first half.”

Despite the Chippewas having the lead for over half of the game, with their largest lead of 12 coming in the third quarter, the Falcons were able to hold on and secure their fifth Mid-American Conference win of the season.

“Even though they went on a run, we still got to stop the bleeding,” Haynie said. “…Our goal is to put together 40 minutes, four quarters, and that’s what’s been inconsistent this year.”

Senior guard Jess Lawson and Morson combined for 43 of Central Michigan’s 69 points. Lawson recorded a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Morson led the team with points with 23 and went 3-5 behind the arc.

“It’s really good to see them (Morson and Lawson) really come along and be that consistent scoring for us,” Haynie said.

The Chippewas struggled with fouls late in the game which Bowling Green capitalized on making 28 of their 36 free throw attempts.

CMU had three players with four fouls a piece and freshman Ayanna-Sarai Darrington fouled out of the game late in the fourth quarter.

“We got to take a look at the film and see how we can get better with the fouls,” Haynie said.

The Chippewas continue to be strong on the rebounding front recording 39 total rebounds and helping themselves to 18 second chance points.

CMU moves to 4-6 in MAC competition and 8-13 overall on the season.

Central Michigan will return home on Wednesday to face the Ohio Bobcats on Wednesday, February 5 at 6:30 p.m.
