CRIME LOG: CMUPD handles fights, hall fire, car accidents

The Central Michigan University Police Department responded to these incidents, plus others, between Feb. 7 and Feb. 20:

Feb. 7

At 10 a.m, CMUPD learned there was a 30-year-old who was not CMU-affiliated trespassed into the Park Library. Once in contact with police, the suspect left without incident. 

At 3:45 p.m, there was a two-car accident near Broomfield Street and East Campus Drive. The 54-year-old male driver stopped at a stop sign and rolled through. The 67-year-old second male driver didn't see him yield and rear-ended him. No one was injured. 

Feb. 9

At 7 p.m, someone reported smoking coming from first-floor Cobb Hall. A person put out the fire with the extinguisher. The Mount Pleasant Fire Department responded to the issue, and found the fire was caused by someone putting burnt parchment paper in the trash accidentally. There were no injuries. 

Feb. 12 

At 10:45 a.m, CMUPD received a report of an accident near Broomfield Street and East Campus Drive. On arrival, a 23-year-old male driving explained to officers that he stopped to let pedestrians cross when a 21-year-old male driver rear ended him. Officers later reviewed footage to find there were no pedestrians at the time of the collision. No injuries occurred. 

At 5:40 p.m, a 22-year-old female reported damage to property when she found her rear wiper blade was broken off her car. She found her ex-boyfriend to be responsible. When police confronted the 22-year-old suspect, he denied responsible for the damage. Officers later found out he was guilty, and the case is still under review. 

Feb. 17

At 12:30 p.m, CMUPD learned of a domestic assault in Woldt Hall. A 26-year-old staff member was helping a 19-year-old female move out of her dorm when the second 19-year-old female roommate walked in agitated and aggressive. The suspect grabbed her roommate by the hair and punched her several times. The staff member tried to break them up. The suspect left and was later located by CMUPD and taken to Isabella County Jail. 

Feb. 18

At 8:20 a.m, CMUPD were informed of an accidental vehicle fire in Lot 75. The 18-year-old female reported smoke coming out of vehicle. Once Mt. Pleasant Fire Dept. got to the scene, there was smoke and flames coming out from under the hood. The vehicle had extensive damage. There were no injuries. 

Feb. 20

At 1 a.m, there was a report of suspicious activity at the Park Library. The 29-year-old suspect entered into the library by tailgating another individual. When officers arrived, they made the suspect leave.
