'Venom: The Last Dance' is all teeth and no bite

This is the final film in the series. Does it overperform or trip on its feet?

"Venom: The Last Dance" is the final chapter in Venom's trilogy of films. Thank God for that too, because this movie left the worst taste in my mouth.

The film picks up from the last one, following Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock and Venom's vacation in Mexico. There, they discover the creator of Venom, Knull, is hunting the pair because of the strong bond they made. Knull sends creatures called the Xenophages to capture them, so that he (Knull) can to be released from his prison.

The FBI is also closing in on Eddie and Venom, intent to kill them before Knull can get to them first.

It's a race against time as Eddie and Venom fight for their lives and their friendship.

While the plot of this movie sounds amazing to any comic book fan, it fails to satisfy the hype with its complex, messy plot. Trying to understand this movie is like trying to solve a Rubik's Cube after a concussion. This movie was more of a headache than a fun time.

This movie has some OK sybiote action, as well as Knull, played by Andy Serkis, who is incredible in every scene he's in. Sadly his character wasted in the long run.

Eddie's character felt like he was going through the motions and had no clear development, as most of the movie is about Venom ... which is super ironic, considering that Venom has about a third of scene time he has in the previous movies.

The movie mostly consists of Eddie roaming around the desert, until he randomly discovers Area 51 and saves a bunch of random symbiotes. Yes, THAT Area 51.

The villains are a task force called the Jury, set up by the FBI to deal with symbiote activety. They're just people with guns and nothing special about them. The Xenophages were awesome though, as they are an obscure-but-wicked villain choice. They were threatening and created good tension, which was fun!

I hated the comedy in this movie. All the jokes were awkward and unfunny. Our theater was dead silent for most of the the movie, with even some walking out mid-showing. I wish I could have done the same thing.

The CGI is alright but really messy in some action scenes and incredibly hard to track during action scenes.

This film felt like an underbaked pie that wasn't ready to come out of the oven. It's not even "fun-bad" and I got little-to-no enjoyment watching this film.

This movie is a 5/10, with the only saving graces being Tom Hardy's acting as Eddie and Venom and the symbiote lore. It you must see this movie, absolutely rent it for cheap.
