Breaking: CMU volleyball coach Mike Gawlik announces resignation
After nine seasons at the helm of Central Michigan volleyball, CMU Athletics announced on Sunday via social media that head coach Mike Gawlik will be resigning to pursue other professional opportunities.
"I'm incredibly proud of the program and what we have been able to accomplish in the last nine seasons," Gawlik said in the CMU Athletics announcement. "Thank you to all the amazing student-athletes, their families, the fans, and alums for their consistent support. Mount Pleasant has been a wonderful community for me and my family. I'm sad to be leaving, but know the program is in a healthy place moving forward."
Gawlik led the Chippewas to a 137-123 overall record, along with four Mid-American Conference tournament appearances and three 20-win seasons.
Including most recently, this past season, when Central Michigan went 24-7 during the regular season, finishing second in the MAC, the winningest season in program history. He also won a MAC Coach of the Year award in 2019 after leading the Chippewas to a 21-9 record.
Gawlik was an assistant coach for the Michigan State volleyball program for 11 seasons before coming to Central Michigan. He helped lead the Spartans to the NCAA tournament nine times including three appearances in the Sweet 16.
Assistant coach Stef Jankiewicz has been named the Interim head volleyball coach, but a national search to find Gawlik's successor will start immediately.
