CRIME LOG: CMUPD handles three vehicle fire, fights, indecent exposure
These are among the incidents handled by Central Michigan University Police Department in the period between Nov. 14 to Nov. 21:
Nov. 14
At 4:25 a.m, a person walked into a bathroom and witnessed an 18-year-old male masturbating. CMUPD identified the suspect and he stated it was him and that is what he was doing. The report was sent to the prosecutor’s office for review.
At 10:45 a.m, a 20-year-old female reported her vehicle’s hood and door frame had been damaged while parked in Lot 62.
At 5:30 p.m, CMUPD assisted a 22-year-old in retrieving stolen AirPods. She reported that she left her AirPods in Pierce Hall after a class, and when she returned they were gone. She used the "Find My” app and traced the stolen AirPods to an apartment off-campus.
She had activated the “Play Sound” feature and ultimately used it to narrow down the location of the stolen AirPods. The suspect admitted to taking the AirPods, and CMUPD turned the report over to the prosecutor’s office.
Nov. 15
At 7:20 p.m, a 20-year-old male driver went off the roadway and struck a light-pole, without injury. He had been driving while eating, CMUPD said. Officers cited him for no insurance.
Nov. 17
At 5:38 a.m, CMUPD received a report of a vehicle fire in Lot 68. On arrival, officers discovered three university-owned vehicles on fire. The CMU environmental health and safety department and the Mount Pleasant Fire Department also responded. The Mount Pleasant Fire Department easily put out the fire.
CMUPD commented that these were CMU snow plow trucks, and said that it was bad timing. No initial evidence of criminal activity was found. CMUPD said they will continue to investigate the event.
Nov. 18
At 1 p.m, an 18-year-old female reported her bike stolen from Woldt Hall. CMUPD reviewed video of the incident and identified suspects. The report remains under investigation.
At 6 p.m, a 19-year-old male bicyclist was hit by a 21-year-old driver on East Campus and Central Drive, sustaining minor injuries.
At 11:50 p.m, CMUPD received a report that someone had a firearm or was talking about a firearm. CMUPD made contact with the suspect, searched the room, and found no firearm. The case was closed.
Nov. 19
At 1:20 a.m, CMUPD stopped a 20-year-old male driver whose car had no visible registration plate. He said that he had purchased the vehicle on Nov. 14th and hadn’t yet had it registered. He was ticketed for driving an unregistered vehicle.
Nov. 20
At 3 a.m, CMUPD learned that 19-year-old female and 20-year old female roommates started arguing, with the 19-year-old punching her roommate in the nose. It left her nose red, CMUPD said. The report was sent to the prosecutor’s office.
At 4 p.m, two vehicles collided as a 20-year-old driver backing out of a space in Lot 27 struck a 20-year-old driver’s vehicle passing by. There were no injuries.
Nov. 21
At 12:05 a.m, CMUPD learned of an assault in Campbell Hall. A 19-year-old female and her 20-year-old boyfriend got into a fight while breaking up, with security footage showing the female striking the male in the face, CMUPD said. The female suspect was arrested and taken to jail for domestic violence, and charged with the same.
