CRIME LOG: CMUPD handles broken jaw, off-campus investigation, car accident

The following incidents were among those handled by Central Michigan University Police Department from Oct 24. to Oct. 31:

Oct. 24

At 11 a.m. CMUPD received an unfounded tipoff about a sextortion: someone might be threatening to share private images to get money. There is no report and no victim.

Oct. 27

At 12:25 a.m. officers stopped a vehicle near on South Missions St. because of a suspicious situation. The driver was cited for not having insurance.

Oct. 30

At 2:30 a.m. CMUPD assisted the Mount Pleasant Police Department in an investigation about an off-campus hit-and-run. Officers talked with the 19-year-old male suspect and his roommates about the accident.

At 8 p.m. a 19-year-old male fell off his electric bike and said he believed his jaw was broken. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital. He was injured while driving at 30 mph and doing a wheelie, CMUPD said.

Oct. 31

At 12:30 p.m. CMUPD witnessed a two-car accident on Broomfield Street. A 19-year-old male driver was stopped waiting for traffic to clear and got rear-ended by a 19-year-old female with no injuries to either person. The female had tried to stop and turn around but her perfume bottle got caught under the pedal, CMUPD said.
