UPDATE: Isabella County-wide races show strong red line
Republicans sweep county-wide seats, unofficial results show
Isabella County-wide offices will have a decidedly red hue in the next term, after the Republican candidates swept three contested races Tuesday.
Unofficial results show incumbents Minde Lux, Kelly Beltnick and Robert Willoughby will serve additional terms as County Clerk, Road Commissioner and Drain Commissioner, respectively; while newcomer Patrick Recker is poised to take a seat on the county road commission.
All ran as Republicans, and Recker‘s win means incumbent Democrat Bob Bush will step aside when his term expires Dec. 31.
Lux won the right to another term, with 15,957 votes (53.65%). She has been Isabella County’s county clerk for the past 11 years. Democratic candidate Patti Sandel followed behind with 13,685 votes, which 46.01% of the vote.
Willoughby led this year’s election for county drain commissioner with 16,679 votes, 57.27% of the vote. Democratic candidate Ryon Skalitzky lost with 12,314 votes, 42.29% of the vote.
Republican candidate Beltinck led the election for county road commissioner with 16,626 votes, 36.67% of the vote.
Recker, who also won the seat of county road commissioner, got 15,487 votes, 34.16% of the vote. Democratic candidate Busch followed behind at 13,028 votes, which is 28.74% of the vote.
