CMU quarterback Bert Emanuel Jr. enters transfer portal
After three seasons with Central Michigan football, redshirt sophomore quarterback Bert Emanuel Jr. has announced on Thursday via Twitter that he will enter the transfer portal.
Known for his speed and rushing abilities, Emanuel Jr. had 844 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns, playing in 13 games through his three seasons with the Chippewas.
Along with his rushing abilities, he also had 439 passing yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions.
After being sidelined with injury for the majority of the 2024 season, Emanuel Jr. only saw action in three games this year.
In those three games, Emanuel Jr. did not have a start, coming in as a rush threat in the Chippewas dual quarterback system.
His most notable game came against Eastern Michigan where he took the majority of the snaps in the second half until going down with an ankle injury.
He had 92 passing yards and 63 rushing yards along with two touchdowns against the Eagles.
Emanuel Jr. burst onto the scene at CMU in his first year, being a part of a three-quarterback system alongside Daniel Richardson and Jase Bauer.
In just four games, he had 496 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, leading the team in yards per carry with 7.4. He ranked second in rushing yards that season behind Lew Nichols III.
His break out game in 2022 came against Buffalo where he had 293 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
The announcement comes a day after head coach Jim McElwain announced his retirement.
CMU football is currently 4-7 overall and 2-5 in Mid-American Conference play. The Chippewas will close out the season against Northern Illinois at 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 30.
