The Central Michigan University Student Government Association is hosting a blood drive from 1 to 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 23 in the Saxe-Herrig-Celani lobby.

President Carolina Hernandez-Ruiz announced the event at the SGA meeting on Oct. 14. She said the association was partnering with Versiti Blood Center of Michigan, a non-profit group that holds almost 4,000 blood drives a year throughout Michigan.

Hernandez-Ruiz said the last blood drive the association held during the 2023-24 school year only had four donors. She said this year their goal is to get at least 35 people to sign up.

"You're helping someone else's life," she said. "You never know when you're gonna be the next one who needs it."

In Other Events:

  • Two more students were elected as general board members for the Student Budget Allocation Committee: Nelson Allen (senior) And Shamita Devanand (sophomore).
  • Additionally, the House and Senate selected and swore in their pro tempores, or people that will lead the meetings in the case the current leader is absentee. Alina Punches was selected for House, and Devanand was selected for Senate.
  • More cabinet positions have opened up, Diversity Committee Chair and City Commission Liaison. Hernandez-Ruiz said anyone interested in the positions should contact an executive cabinet member.
  • The diversity committee held breakout sessions to help them brainstorm ideas for future events, legislation and demonstrations. These events will be reviewed by Shreya Abrahams, Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for SGA, and discussed in further detail in the near future.
