After having two field goals over 50 yards in Central Michigan football’s loss to Eastern Michigan Saturday, senior kicker Tristan Mattson earned Mid-American Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.

This is the second time this season Mattson has been named player of the week, receiving the honor on Sept. 30 after he kicked the game winning kick against San Diego State.

After a frustrating 2023 season where he went 7-for-14 in field goals, it has been a different story this year. Mattson has been nearly perfect, hitting 11 out of his 12 attempts and is currently riding a streak of 10 straight field goals made.

The two field goals made against the Eagles were his first field goals over 50 yards this season, hitting a 51-yarder and a season high 56-yarder.

He also went 4-for-4 in point after attempts, going 19-for-20 overall this season.

Even with the strong performance on special teams, the Chippewas were unable to come out of Ypsilanti with a victory, falling to EMU 38-34.

CMU now stands at 3-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

The Chippewas will stay on the road when they face off against Miami (Ohio) at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
