The Mount Pleasant community will have an opportunity to enjoy nature, explore art and unplug from busy lives at the event in Deerfield park next week.

The 17th annual Art From Our Park event will run from noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 21 at Deerfield Nature Park, 2425 W. Remus Road.

Amy Powell, the executive director of Art Reach, said the goal of this event is for community to enjoy nature, unplug and experience creative elements in a nature site.

The event will feature various forms of art, ranging from musicians and belly dancers to screen printing and painting pumpkins.

Powell said that this event is accessible to all ages and abilities. Admission to the event is free and park fees are waived during the event time.

This event is hosted by Isabella County Parks in partnership with Art Reach of Mid-Michigan.

Staff at the county park started Art From Our Park 17 years ago asa way to get more people out to parks to experience Deerfield and as an opportunity to learn about their community.

"A couple of years ago, the park reached out to us to ask if we would be willing to partner with them on some of the planning logistics," Powell said. "They wanted to be able to continue it, but they didn't have the capacity to coordinate all of the elements around the event, but they still felt that it was important."

Powell said people are encouraged to participate in variety of activities that can take from 15 minutes to an hour.

"We try to vary the projects such that you could spend more time making the project more complex, or adding different layers to it,” Powell said.
