Central Michigan soccer faced off against Akron in Mount Pleasant on Sunday for its second conference game of the season. The Chippewas came out of the game with a 1-0 victory to secure their first Mid-American Conference win of the season.

CMU moves to 3-4-2 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play after opening MAC play with a tie to Eastern Michigan earlier in the week.

The game started off with the Chippewas going to work, having most of the chances at the net. However, the goalkeeper for Akron kept the game tied for the Zips.

CMU had most of the control throughout the game, outshooting the Zips 13-5.

With less than 10 minutes to go in the first half, junior forward Lauren Walker took a turnover from the defense and slipped the ball past the goalkeeper to give the Chippewas a 1-0 lead.

The second half ended the way the first did to give Central Michigan its first win at home since Aug. 25, 1-0.

“We were so much better, (and) so much more secure on transition,” head coach Jeremy Groves said.

Allison LaPoint collected the first shutout of the season for the Chippewas, saving the one shot on goal. Groves said "she's a rock” for the team and helps the defense attack more.

CMU heads on the road to face off against Northern Illinois in DeKalb, Illinois at 2 p.m. ET on Thursday.
