After a frustrating 1-0 loss to UW-Green Bay last Sunday, Central Michigan women's soccer bounced back as it beat Purdue Fort Wayne 6-1 to finish non-conference play.

CMU's record moves to 2-4-1 overall.

After a missed clearance from the Purdue Fort Wayne goalkeeper, graduate student midfielder Claudia Muessig gathered the ball and hit the back of the net, giving the Chippewas a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute.

The game remained quiet till the 39-minute mark when junior midfielder Camryn Dunn scored the second goal for Central Michigan.

Five minutes later, the Chippewas secured another goal when junior forward Lauren Walker slipped one past the Mastodons goalkeeper, giving CMU the 3-0 lead.

As the half was coming to an end, a shot from redshirt senior defender Libby Van Wagnen from outside the box went in, extending the lead to four.

Purdue Fort Wayne came out of the locker room looking for their first goal but goalkeeper Allison LaPoint made a couple of huge saves to keep the shutout.

Central Michigan scored again as leading scorer from last year Jenna Little potted her first goal of the season, followed up by another goal from sophomore defender Rachel Jackson to make the score 6-0.

Purdue Fort Wayne got on the board in the 67th minute to make the score 6-1.

The Chippewas open Mid-American Conference play Thursday in Ypsilanti when they face Eastern Michigan at 4 p.m.
