The Board of Trustees voted at the end of its meeting on Sept. 26 to appoint Neil MacKinnon as the next president of Central Michigan University.

Board of Trustees Chair Todd Regis said MacKinnon will officially become the president and begin his five-year contract on Nov. 1, with Davies assisting with the transition until the end of the current semester.

The board approved MacKinnon unanimously with no discussion.

"Congratulations President MacKinnon, you are joining a... university that cares about its students," President Bob Davies said. "I'm looking forward to being your favorite faculty member, and with your support, chairman Regis, we'll make this a smooth transition."

MacKinnon most recently comes from a provost position at Augusta University in Georgia and said he has a background in teaching various medicine-related topics.

This is a continuing story, and Central Michigan Life will have more in our full coverage of the meeting later today.
