As Central Michigan football gears up for the 2024 season, four Chippewas earned Lindy’s preseason All-Mid American Conference team selections.

Seniors are leading the pack for CMU, as defensive back Donte Kent and wide receiver Jesse Prewitt III both earned first team honors.

Seniors running back Marion Lukes and offensive lineman Brayden Swartout were named to the second team.

Kent previously earned two-time All-MAC selections, with a first team honor in 2022 and a second team in 2023. Through 41 games, he has made 182 tackles with two interceptions and 37 pass breakups.

In the 2023 season, where Kent started in 11 games for CMU, he had two games with double-digit tackles. One of those was against Michigan State in the Chippewas' season opener.

On the offensive side, Prewitt III had a breakout season for CMU in 2023. Playing in all 12 games, he racked up 31 receptions for 438 yards with four touchdowns.

In week three of the 2023 season, Prewitt III helped the team defeat South Alabama, catching 10 receptions for 142 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown.

Serving as both a running back and a kick returner, Lukes has racked up a total 2,698 all-purpose yards throughout his 33-game career.

In the 2023 season, he totaled 737 rushing yards with five touchdowns. Against Northern Illinois, Lukes had 21 rushes for 202 yards with a touchdown. His momentum didn’t stop there; in the next week he totaled 147 yards with one touchdown against Western Michigan.

On special teams, Lukes totaled 581 yards on 25 kick returns in the 2023 season.

He showed his talent early in CMU’s home opener against New Hampshire, where he secured a kick return touchdown. Lukes also secured 157 yards on four kick returns in the matchup.

Also receiving second team honors, Swartout played in 28 games throughout his career, starting in 25 games. He started in all 12 games in the previous season.

The Chippewas went 5-7 overall and 3-5 in conference play in 2023, to have back-to-back losing seasons.

CMU will look to turn things around in the 2024 season, which kicks off at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, when the Chippewas host Central Connecticut State.
