A 58-year-old Mount Pleasant man was arrested Tuesday morning, charged with shooting another person with the intent to kill. The capture brought to an end a half-day man hunt that had an area on the eastern edge of Mount Pleasant locked down for part of Monday afternoon.

Michigan State Police arrested Leangel Rodriguez-Sabatela without incident early Tuesday morning. He is being held pending arraignment in connection with the shooting that occurred near East Airport and South Leaton roads Monday.

The victim, state police said, was alert and talking Tuesday morning.

Isabella County Sheriff’s officials issued a CodeRed alert for a 2-mile radius of the area in the wake of Monday’s shooting, advising that residents should stay inside with their doors locked.

Rodriguez-Sabatela was booked into the Isabella County Jail at 4:01 a.m. Tuesday, jail records show, on charges that include assault with intent to murder and a felony firearms violation.

Multiple jurisdictions assisted in the investigation, search and arrest. Assault with intent to commit murder is a Class A felony in Michigan that, under state statuette, carries a maximum penalty of life in prison.
