Central Michigan Athletics announced its 2024 Hall of Fame class on Tuesday. Five former athletes and one legendary coach will join the Marcy Weston CMU Athletics Hall of Fame in September.

The list includes former No. 1 overall NFL draft pick Eric Fisher, former wrestling head coach Tom Borrelli, dual-athlete Chad Pleiness, gymnast Sarah Dame, men’s track and field distance runner Ryan Watson and volleyball player Kaitlyn Schultz.

Eric Fisher

Headlining the list is Super Bowl Champion offensive lineman Fisher, who played for the Chippewas from 2009-12.

He was the first pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, making him the only player in Mid-American Conference history to have that honor and the second CMU player in history to be picked in the first round.

The former Chippewa has played 10 years in the football’s top league, with three teams including the Kansas City Chiefs, Indianapolis Colts and his current team, the Miami Dolphins. He took home a Super Bowl ring in 2019 with the Chiefs.

Before finding success as a professional, Fisher played four years with CMU as part of the offensive line. He found a range of successes, as he was selected first team All-American by Pro Football Weekly in his final season with the Chippewas. In that season, he was a part of CMU’s Little Caesars Pizza Bowl victory.

Tom Borrelli

Just a few months after announcing his retirement, Borrelli is again making headlines -- this time as the only coach on the list of inductees for this year's Hall of Fame class.

He spent 33 seasons at the helm of CMU wrestling, where he led the Chippewas to 30 MAC Championships (regular season and tournament), including a conference tournament title in the 2023-24 season.

Borrelli also holds the record for most MAC Coach of the Year awards with 15, coaching 45 All-Americans throughout his career.

Throughout his tenure, Borrelli went 368-179 overall and 154-36 in MAC duals.

Chad Pleiness

Pleiness was with the Chippewas through 1999-2002, playing for both the men’s basketball and baseball teams.

On the field, Pleiness earned All-MAC First Team and All-Mideast Region honors in the 2002 season as a pitcher.

Not stopping on the mound, he also found himself as a contributor on the court. He helped the men’s basketball team to a conference championship in 2001, earning him All-MAC honorable mention.

He was also named to the MAC All-Freshman Team in 2000.

Pleiness finds himself in the history books at CMU in multiple sports, as he holds the record for most strikeouts in a seven-inning game with 15. Along with that, he ranks second in CMU history for free throw percentage.

Sarah Dame

Competing for the Chippewas from 2000-03 as a gymnast, Dame found success on the mat. She was the MAC all-around champion in 2001 while also earning All-MAC honors twice in her career.

CMU gymnastics found a lot of success at the time Dame was there, as she was a part of three MAC titles and three NCAA Regional appearances.

She was one of just six Chippewas to qualify for the national championships. She competed on the big stage in 2003 for the all-around competition.

Ryan Watson

Watson competed on the track and field and cross country teams at CMU from 1998-2000.

In his first year with the Chippewas in 1998, Watson placed 33rd at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, earning him All-American honors and leading CMU to a Top 20 finish as a team.

On the track and field side, Watson found success in the 2000 season. He won both the 5,000 and 10,000 meter runs at the MAC Championships, earning him the Most Outstanding Performer Award.

Kaitlyn Schultz

The final Chippewa to receive the honor is Schultz, who competed on CMU’s volleyball team from 2008-11.

She was a four-time All-MAC selection, with three first-team honors and one second-team. Schultz helped lead the team to its first ever NCAA tournament.

The performance throughout her career put her in the record books. She is the all-time leader in career hitting percentage with a .366 and season hitting percentage of .407 in 2011.

The six Chippewas will be inducted at the Hall of Fame Ceremony at 6 p.m. Sept. 20 at McGuirk Arena.
