CRIME LOG: Police handles domestic assault, accidents, theft

The following incidents were among those handled by the Central Michigan University Police and Mount Pleasant Police Department in the period from April 9 to April 15.

April 9

CMUPD arrested a 29-year-old male for operating while intoxicated at 12:17 a.m. near Mission and High Streets.

At 11:45 a.m., a 19-year-old female reported she had been harassed in Merrill Hall. CMUPD told the 19-year-old male suspect to stop trying to contact her, and the suspect cooperated.

CMUPD assisted with a reported accident on Blanchard and Curtis Road in Isabella County at 10:46 p.m. The vehicle had swerved off the road and into a wooded area. The 50-year-old male driver was having a seizure. An ambulance transported him to a hospital.

At 6:35 p.m., a victim came to the police lobby to complain of domestic assault. The male suspect left prior to MPPD arrival at 1600 Block Portabella Drive, and the investigation is ongoing.

April 10

At 12:06 p.m. CMUPD went to Mecosta County jail to transport a 48-year-old male to appear in court.

A 47-year-old driver hit an 18-year-old bicyclist, causing minor scrapes for the bicyclist on Washington and Bellows Streets at 3:32 p.m. CMUPD cited the driver for failure to yield to a pedestrian at a crosswalk.

April 11

At 7:00 p.m. Student Conduct reported that an individual in a Saxe Hall might have a taser, a gun that fires electrical darts to stun a person. CMUPD made contact with the 22-year-old female in the room, who said she previously had a taser but had taken it home.

April 12

At 9:15 a.m. police responded to a report that a car had caught on fire in Lot 45. CMUPD attempted to put it out with fire extinguishers with no result. The fire department succeeded in putting out the fire. The fire hazard was electrical in nature, with the exact cause unknown. One other car was slightly damaged by the fire.

High winds took out a sign on Stadium and East Campus Drive at 5:43 p.m. Someone in a hotel had put the sign in their car. CMUPD took the sign back, and the case was closed.

MPPD are investigating the theft of a cell phone that was left in a local business as of 7:02 p.m. on 2300 Block Mission Street.

April 13

At 9:45 p.m. CMUPD arrested a 38-year-old male parked in Lot 75. CMUPD found no record of the license plate. The driver had a warrant out of Mecosta county. He was arrested and taken to Isabella County Jail.

April 14

At 1:45 a.m. CMUPD arrested 61-year-old man and took him to jail for driving while intoxicated on High and Watson Streets. The vehicle drove over the centerline and the fogline on the side of the street.

CMUPD responded to a report of possible domestic violence at 2:36 a.m. in Carey Hall. A male and female were arguing in a room. The male had scratches on his neck and the female had a band-aid on her nose. Neither admitted to any violence that evening, and the report was given to prosecutors for review.

At 12:43 p.m., a male was arrested for domestic assault on 1000 Block Pickard Street. The Tribal Police located the vehicle from an earlier investigation.
