Online camping reservations for Coldwater Lake Family Park and Herrick Recreation Area will open at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13.

The reservations can only be made exclusively online through the Isabella County Parks and Recreation’s website during this time until Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 9 a.m. when phone and in-person reservations will open.

Alexis Hansen, the director of Isabella County Parks and Recreation, said she encourages any hopeful campers to use the online reservation system as it will be the earliest opportunity to secure a spot at any of the two park locations.

Hansen also said that while their campgrounds do not fill up completely during their reservation opening day, her office does tend to get a rush of reservations.

“Have your plans ready, create an account on our online reservation system,” she said. “So that way you can just sign in and go to your reservation rather than have to create an account right then when you're trying to book your site.”

Both Coldwater and Herrick Parks will be open for camping on Friday, May 3. Herrick will close on Tuesday, Oct. 1 and Coldwater Park will close on Sunday, Oct. 6.

Reservations for both parks have a $25 camping fee per night and a $5 processing fee per reservation.

A two-night minimum will be required for reservations, however, holiday weekends will require a three-night minimum.

Hansen said her office does see an increase in reservations around the holidays.

“The big holiday weekends, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, we do tend to see a spike at the end of the season right before people go back to school,” she said.

The Isabella County building is currently closed for asbestos abatement. Because of this, the Parks and Recreation office has temporarily moved to 614 W. Pickard St., in Mount Pleasant. Here people can make in-person reservations starting on Feb. 21.

For additional information or inquiries about reservations, individuals can contact the Isabella County Park’s Main Office at (989) 317-4083.
