“Echoes of Innovation: Black Women in the Era of AI” is an interactive discussion event that aims to highlight the contributions of Black women in the artificial intelligence industry. The latest developments in AI, future trends and ethics of AI will also be discussed.

The event is being sponsored by Multicultural Academic Student Affairs, CMU Innovation & Online and Curriculum and Instructional Support. It will take place at 6:30 p.m on Feb. 21 in the Health Professions Building Room 1020.

Gabrielle Likavec is a consultant for the Office of Curriculum and Instructional Support. She said this conversation is one of many in the Artificial Intelligence Conversations series, a University AI Discussion initiative launched by the provost’s office in response to the growth of AI program such as ChatGPT.

“As we enter the age of AI, this initiative is a crucial part of our mission of supporting faculty in nurturing student success,” Likavec said. “This event in particular provides the opportunity for our campus community to hear diverse perspectives from a leader in the field.”

The conversation is being led by Angle Bush, a Central Michigan University and Harvard alumna who founded the company Black Women in Artificial Intelligence. She is also a member of CMU’s Science and Engineering Advisory Board

“We are very excited that CMU alum and visionary leader Angle Bush will be joining us on campus to have this conversation,” Likavec said.

Students can RSVP for the event via the MASS Engage page or through the CMU events page. A webinar link will be provided for those who can’t make it in person.
