Tu BiShvat, a Jewish holiday about environmental awareness, will take place during the Jewish Heritage Week at Central Michigan University.

The event will take place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at the Bovee University Center Rotunda.

Tu BiShvat, referred to as the Jewish Earth Day, is a holiday to celebrate environmental awareness. Even though it is not the biggest holiday in Jewish tradition, it is one that is interesting to learn about, Hillel President Lily Segall said.

“It gives you time to think about the environment,” Segall said.

She said that the event is open for both Jewish and non-Jewish people to attend.

During the event, there will be a presentation of the holiday and what it is about, Segall said. After the presentation, there will be activities. For example, people can paint and plant seeds.

“It’s a great opportunity to learn arts and crafts," Segall said.

There will also be food and environmentally themed snacks provided at the event.

“We have worms and dirt, which are (actually) Oreos,” Segall said.

Admission, food and the activities are all free.
