Seven CMU football players earn All-MAC team honors
As the Central Michigan football season has come to an end, seven Chippewas were honored with All Mid-American Conference team honors.
The only Chippewa to be named to the First Team All-MAC is junior running back Marion Lukes, who received the honor for kickoff return specialist. Lukes was a consistent returner for CMU, appearing in all 12 games at the position.
Lukes ended the season with 581 yards and one touchdown on kick returns, averaging 48.4 yards per game and 23.3 per return.
The kickoff return touchdown came in week two against New Hampshire, where he took an 86-yard return to the end zone to aid the win against the Wildcats, 45-42. In the matchup, Lukes also secured a season high 157 yards on four attempts.
Five Chippewas were honored with Second Team All-MAC selections.
On the offensive side, junior wide receiver Jesse Prewitt III and offensive linemen Deiyantei Powell-Woods and Brayden Swartout took home awards.
Prewitt III appeared in all 12 games for the Chippewas, securing 31 receptions for 438 yards while bringing in four touchdowns. He finished the season second in receiving yards and tied first in receiving touchdowns.
In the win over South Alabama, Prewitt shined; he ended the game with 10 receptions for 142 yards and one touchdown.
Powell-Woods secured his second All-MAC selection after receiving Third Team All-MAC in the 2022 season. In his senior year with the Chippewas, Powell-Woods started in 10 games, missing the first two weeks of the season due to an injury.
The other offensive lineman to receive the honor is Swartout, who started all12 games at right guard this season. This is the first time Swartout has received All-MAC status in his three-year career at CMU.
Taking home second team awards on the defensive side for CMU was defensive back Donte Kent and defensive end Jacques Bristol.
For the second-straight year, Kent took home All-MAC honors as he is coming off of a 2022 campaign where he received All-MAC First Team. In this season, Kent had a career-high 58 total tackles with 2.5 tackles for loss and 0.5 sacks.
Representing the defensive front, Bristol received his first All-MAC honor of his career in his senior year. He totaled a career-high 44 tackles while also leading the team in tackles for loss with eight and sacks with four.
Bristol came out of the gates firing in the Chippewas season opener against Michigan State where he totaled seven tackles and two tackles for loss.
Even after battling injury midway through the season, junior linebacker Kyle Moretti took home Third Team All-MAC honors for the second year in a row. In nine starts for CMU, he totaled 65 total tackles with five tackles for loss and two sacks.
Moretti had a season high 14 tackles against the Spartans in the season opener, and also tallied three games with double-digit tackles.
The Chippewas finished 5-7 overall and 3-5 in conference play, ending the season on a disappointing three-game losing streak.
