CM Life named nation’s top periodic college paper
Central Michigan Life, Central Michigan University’s award-winning student-run media company, recently received the College Media Association’s top organizational prize for its publishing division and institutional size.
CM Life was named the nation’s best periodic publication serving a campus of 10,000 or more undergraduate students. The Pinnacle Awards honor “overall excellence in student work on college newspapers, websites, magazines, yearbooks, radio or television stations, including internet or closed-circuit outlets, produced during an academic year,” according to the College Media Association website. The organizational awards are open to any college media outlet whose advisor is a member of the association.
The Four-Year Periodic Newspaper of the Year is open to newspapers that published, on average, two to three times per month during the 2022-23 academic year. Entries were judged based on coverage and content, design, graphics and illustrations, photography, service to the campus community, reporting, writing and editing.
Central Michigan Life has been the campus’ media outlet since 1904. Last year, the paper was named to the Associated Collegiate Press’ prestigious Pacemaker 100, recognizing it as one of the top 100 student-run media outlets of the prior century.
The College Media Association comprises more than 600 members across the continent. The Pinnacle Award winners were announced during the College Media Association’s Fall National College Media Convention, which took place Oct. 29 through Nov. 2, in Atlanta.
