An annual Glow in the Dark Capture the Flag event, hosted by Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship, is returning. The game will take place from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7 at the Central Michigan University Seal near Warriner Hall.

Last year over 200 students attended the event, according to Jacob Oebel, director of the Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship. This year the fellowship has made a few changes as to how the event is run.

The fellowship plans to hold three smaller games at a time, consisting of 50 people per game, Oebel said. Once the limit has been reached, students will need to wait until one of the current games end. Other activities, such as glow frisbee or glow volleyball, will be present for students to participate in while waiting for an open game.

The event’s purpose, Oebel said, is to foster connections between students.

“Our goal is to provide fun, safe, sober and free activities for students to participate in, with the intent of helping students connect with the CMU community," he said. "We know that it can be difficult finding friends and making connections at the start of a school year and we want to help students meet each other through this event.”

The event is free for all students, and drinks will be provided.

The students are encouraged to show up on time and arrive with friends if they want to play together, as games are run on a “first come, first serve” basis, Oebel said.

In addition, he said that students should not bring too many personal belongings. While the event usually has a spot for people’s personal items, such as phones and keys, the fellowship is not responsible for student’s belongings.

Registration is not required.
