Multicultural Academic Student Services will be hosting a panel of faculty and students in observance of Arab American Heritage Month. This event will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on April 26 in Anspach 161.

According to Engage Central, the panel aims to teach a brief history and heritage of Arabs in the Middle East and North African regions. Following this, there will be a discussion by the student panelists about their experiences being Arab American.

Dr. Raweh Khasawneh and Dr. Salma Haidar will be hosting this panel. Khasawneh is an assistant professor in the nutrition and dietetics program while Haidar is a professor at the School of Health Sciences in the Division of Public Health.

According to the Arab America Foundation, Arab American Heritage Month was an initiative launched in 2017 to recognize and celebrate the accomplishments and history of Arab Americans.

On March 31 of this year, President Joe Biden issued a proclamation, officially making April National Arab American Heritage Month. Prior to this, different states and communities already recognized Arab American Heritage Month, but Biden’s proclamation made it recognized at a nationwide level.
