Indian Night event to celebrate Indian culture and heritage
The Indian Students Association at Central Michigan University is all set to host an event that celebrates Indian culture and heritage. The annual "Indian Night" event is scheduled for 5 to 9:30 p.m. on April 22 in the McGuirk Arena, and is open to all students and their families in the Mount Pleasant community.
The event offers an opportunity to experience Indian culture firsthand. Students and families attending can expect cultural performances, music and food. The event aims to provide a platform for interacting with members of the Indian community on campus and learning more about their culture and traditions.
"This is a fun-filled evening that celebrates the beauty and richness of Indian culture," said Sagar Manilal, the president of the Indian Students Association.
Last semester, the Diwali event had over 950 attendees, including faculty, staff, Indian students, American students, and families from all backgrounds, he said. This year, Indian Night is expected to be even bigger with a whopping 1100 estimated attendees. The event will take place at McGuirk Arena, and the food will be authentic Indian cuisine.
Registration for the event is free, and all international and local students are welcome to attend. Attendees can expect an evening filled with cultural performances, including dance, singing, and a fashion show. There are approximately 20 to 25 acts planned. Furthermore, some early arrivals at the event will be rewarded with gift cards.
"We want the students who came in spring to feel at home, and we want to share the cultural vibes with the internationals and locals here," added Manilal.
The Indian Night is an event with funding from various sponsors, including the President's Office, the College of Business Administration, the Accounting department, the College of Education and Human Sciences, the College of the Arts and Media, the Leadership Institute, Graduate Studies, College of Engineering and Veedu.
