Q&A with landlords, students to discuss living off-campus on Dec. 16
Central Michigan University has invited community landlords and CMU students to gather for lunch and a discussion of topics that interest students who live off-campus. The panel takes place from noon till 2 p.m. on Dec. 16 in the Eatery, the Towers residential dining hall.
Renee Watson, a Vice President of Student Affairs Department at CMU and an organizer of the event, said it will be a Q&A for students who reside off-campus to share their experience and have a conversation with local property owners.
“I thought that this would be a great way to maintain and strengthen off-campus living for CMU students,” Watson said.
The panel had been announced in the Central Michigan Life advisory board meeting Nov. 18. Kathleen Gardner, Erica Johnson and Stan Shingles from Student Affairs Department, Mary Hills, a Vice President of Financial Services, CMU police, other departments of CMU and community offices are participating in the panel.
Watson said both domestic and international students who live off-campus have been invited to serve on the panel. She said they were selected by advice of Students Affairs and Student Recruitment and Retention Departments. Students selected received email-invitations.
“We will all be sharing information for discussion, and we are hoping to generate some feedback based on a variety of ideas and topics,” the email said.
Whether the event is going to be recurring depends on its turnout, Watson said. She had previous success with a similar event at Illinois State University, where Watson served as an associate dean and managed off-campus services under her department. It is the first time such an event will take place at CMU.
