CMU lacrosse clinches MAC title with win over Akron

With a win Saturday, Central Michigan (10-7, 8-2) clinched a share of the regular season Mid-American Conference title and will host the conference tournament.

The four teams playing in the tournament will include the Chippewas, Kent State, Youngstown State, and Robert Morris. It begins on May 5, on which CMU will host Kent State. 

CMU started off the first half hot jumping out to a 7-2 lead. The Chippewas were led by Maggie Diebold, Audrey Whiteside, and Kendall Hoyt. Each player scored two in the first half.

Both teams started the second half fast. Each team combined for 11 goals in the third quarter. Akron outscored the Chippewas 6-5 in the quarter. Going into the fourth quarter the Chippewas saw themselves up 12-8.

CMU did not take their foot off the gas in the fourth quarter outscoring Akron 7-2 in the quarter and securing the win. The Hoyt sister scored 3 out of the 7 goals.

CMU finished the game with 30 shots with 23 of those shots on goal.

Eight players found the back of the net in yesterday’s game. Three of the players in Diebold, Whiteside, and Hoyt scored hat tricks. Diebold ended the season on an 8 game hattrick streak. She ended the season with 57 goals. Whiteside ended the game with the most points on the team with 70, scoring 39 goals and having 31 assists.
