Chippewa track and field dominates Jack Skoog Invitational

CMU track and field redshirt freshman Mohogany Wells produced first place finishes in two events Saturday at the Jack Skoog Invitational.

CMU Track and Field team hosted their second invitational of the year for the Jack Skoog Invitational on Saturday. The Chippewas did not disappoint at home, winning 11 events along with many second place finishes.

“It was just an overall really great day. We had a lot of 1,2,3 and so on finishes, we competed well, we got some good training out of it as well.” Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Jenny Swieton said.

In the field events the throwers got the day started for CMU. Freshman Mohogany Wells won both the women’s weight throw and the women’s shot put. 

CMU also saw victories from freshman Lindsey Clarke in the triple jump and Grace Williamson in the high jump who beat her previous best at the Michigan Invitational.

CMU saw a lot of second place finishes in the field events from sophomore Tricia Pierce (pole vault), freshman Camiyah James (long jump), junior Rebecca Herman (shot put), and freshman Aliyah Boeve (weight throw).

CMU kept rolling in the track events as the team got victories from freshman Annie Laurenz (400-meter dash), freshman Jericha Petrella (600-meter dash), freshman Emily Paurpore  (800-meter dash), sophomore Anya Turner (1-mile run), sophomore Maddy Boyd (3,000-meter run), freshman Peyton Korytkowski (60-meter hurdles), and the team of Lauren Macdonald, Karlie Gardner, Haley Hegenauer, and Maddy Boyd (team distance medley).

CMU also saw second place finishes in the track events from Peyton Korytkowski (60-meter dash), sophomore Emma Francis (400-meter dash), Emily Paurpore (1-mile run), junior Maija Rettelle (3,000-meter run), and junior Olivia Hankey (60-meter hurdles).

CMU looks to stay hot next weekend when they compete in two meets, the Notre Dame Meyo Invitational which is on Feb. 4 and Feb. 5, and the Grand Valley State University Showdown on Feb. 4.
