Mount Pleasant mayor resigning, one open city commission vacancy
Mount Pleasant Mayor Will Joseph has accepted a new position as village manager of Paw Paw, Michigan. Joseph's last day with the City of Mount Pleasant will be Nov. 26.
"Mount Pleasant has been my home for 11 years and I didn't have any ambition to leave the city," Joseph said. "But moving into city management has been a career goal of mine for the last several years and this position was a great opportunity."
Joseph's resignation creates one open city commission vacancy. The appointed term of this position will expire on May 3, 2022.
Applications for the position are open now through Dec. 2. The Appointments Committee will consider applications and make a recommendation to the City Commission at its Dec. 13 meeting.
Application information is available at the City Manager's Office as well as the City of Mount Pleasant's Boards and Commissions page.
Joseph said he will miss the people and community of Mount Pleasant the most.
"It's really the people that make Mount Pleasant an outstanding place to live and work," Joseph said. "The toughest part is leaving behind those relationships you've built and moving hours away from those connections."
As he prepares to transition to Paw Paw, Joseph hopes the commission will stay dedicated to providing a safe community and fostering strong relationships with community partners.
"I want to thank everyone I've worked with that's supported me throughout the years," Joseph said. "I've loved my time here in Mount Pleasant and I wish everybody the best."
