Elzinga named Punter of the Week
Central Michigan redshirt freshman punter Luke Elzinga was named the Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week for his week three performance.
Elzinga punted six times in the Chippewas (1-2) 49-21 loss to Louisiana State. He totaled 294 yards, posting a net average of 49.2 yards. He had only two punts returned for a total of minus-one yard and one of his punts traveled 60 yards. Four of his punts placed the Tigers inside their own 20-yard line.
The Grand Rapids Christian alum has punted 13 times for 579 yards, an average of 44.5 yards in 2021. He's placed six inside the opponent's 20-yard line and has one touchback.
He was one of eight nominees for the award in week three. Among the nominees were Nik Constantinou of Texas A&M and Tom Snee of Oregon. The Ray Guy Award is an honor annually given to the best College Punter.
Last year, Elzinga was named first team All-Mid-American Conference. He had six punts that traveled 50-plus yards during the abbreviated season and averaged 43.2 yards per punt.
Elzinga and the Chippewas host Florida International (1-2) at noon Saturday.
