Volleyball releases 2021 schedule, features four tournaments
Four tournaments and clashes with Michigan State, Butler and Oakland highlight Central Michigan Volleyball's 2021 schedule.
The Chippewas completed the condensed, conference-only Winter 2020 season at an 11-11 record, falling just short of qualifying for the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
The Chippewas will play 31 matches total, kicking things off on Aug. 21 with an exhibition match at home against Grand Valley State University.
CMU is slated to participate in four out-of-conference tournaments before the regular season begins. The Chippewas will head to Peroia, Illinois to play in the Bradley Tournament from Aug. 27 to 29 for matchups against Bradley, DePaul and Southeast Missouri State. The Chippewas return home to McGuirk Arena on Sept. 3 and 4 to host the Bulldogs, Youngstown State and North Dakota in the 2021 Chippewa Invitational.
The Dayton/Wright State Tournament will run from Sept. 9 to 11 in Dayton, Ohio, before closing the tournament sector of the season at the Michigan State Tournament at MSU on Sept. 17 and 18.
The Chippewas will take on Northern Illinois for the first MAC series on Sept. 24 in McGuirk Arena. In 2020, CMU won both matches in its series against the Huskies.
Following the NIU series, the Chippewas will take on rival Western Michigan in Kalamazoo in hopes to avenge their series loss to the Broncos in 2020.
McGuirk Arena will be occupied for nine conference games, hosting NIU, Eastern Michigan, Akron, Toledo, Buffalo and 2020 MAC Champion Bowling Green across the 18-match stage.
The 2021 MAC Tournament is set for Nov. 21-23 with a hot site to be determined.
