Soaring Eagle celebrates July 4 with fireworks display.
The Soaring Eagle Resort celebrated the Fourth of July with “the biggest fireworks display in mid-Michigan,” on Saturday, July 3. This is an annual event put on by the casino and one that is popular with the people of Mount Pleasant, as well as the surrounding areas.
Attendees started gathering around dusk, before the sun was fully down. Groups found places to sit on the field outside of the casino, as well as in the casino parking lot.
People from other parts of Michigan came to Mount Pleasant to enjoy the show with family and friends.
Barbara Savage and her daughter Chasity came from their hometown of Ithaca to see the fireworks show. Barbara said this was her fifth time attending the fireworks show in Mount Pleasant.
“I’ve come before,” Barbara said. “And these are really nice fireworks.”
This is the first July 4th celebration since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. There was some distance between groups, with most people staying with those they had come with and sitting on chairs and blankets they brought.
Brittani Bertoni from Mount Pleasant, attended the fireworks with her brother, partner and 1-year-old daughter, who would be experiencing fireworks for the first time. Bertoni said the Fourth of July is special for her family because they get to celebrate the holiday along with her daughter’s birthday.
“I've always loved the Fourth of July and so it worked out really great that her birthday is so close to it,” Bertoni said.
Many people were set up along the road leading to the casino. Other parking lots were also full of people ready to celebrate the holiday again after a year of social distancing.
