RPL students to host virtual match making event
Central Michigan University students in the recreation, parks and leisure "Planning Recreation Programs & Events" (RPL 430) class will be putting on a two-day virtual match-making event.
The purpose of the event, titled "Match Made in Mount Pleasant," is a way to meet either a new friend or a new partner in a safe manner during COVID-19.
"This is just a different way to meet somebody new face to face as if it were an online dating app, but it's just a unique experience," said Adrianna Imfeld, public relations representative for Match Made in Mount Pleasant.
The event will be take place on April 16 and 17 at 6:30 p.m. over WebEx. Registration is on the event's Weebly site and costs $7.
The match-up surveys will have questions about personal lifestyle, preferences and other general questions. The responses will then be sent through a computer program to match people together. Responses are also hand-checked to make sure everything is accurate.
According to the website, the survey contains 50 matchmaking questions and several questions about healthy relationships. Three questions on the survey will pertain to sexual aggression.
"It is all kept confidential, so we don't send your survey to whoever you get matched with or other people," Imfeld said. "It simply stays in our group."
The event will go live on WebEx 30 minutes before the official start time. During this time, guest speakers will be present. Students will then be placed in breakout groups with their date. Participants will be given ice breaker activities to do during the virtual date. All dates will last an hour.
"Our group hopes that this will be a nonstressful, fun activity for people to do that they'll be able to possibly, even if the partnership doesn't work out, make a new friend out of it," Imfeld said.
Those participating will be able to specify if they are wanting to match with a new friend or a potential romantic partner.
