OCRIE launches new online training program
On Oct. 28, Central Michigan University students, faculty and staff received an email with information to complete online training meant "to nurture an inclusive environment."
The Office of Civil Rights and Institutional Equity (OCRIE) is administrating the programs ran through EverFi, a national provider of educational programs.
According to Interim Director of OCRIE Mary Martinez, there are five different modules. Two for faculty and staff depending on whether or not they are supervisors, while students received one of three training modules based on class standing.
Faculty and staff are required to take the "Preventing Harassment and Discrimination" online training. Through a series of interactive modules, faculty and staff will learn tips to promote a harassment and discrimination-free environment and their role and responsibilities under Title IX.
Incoming freshmen and transfer students are to complete the training "Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduates." Martinez said the program is meant to introduce new students to the ongoing on campus conversation regarding sexual and gender-based misconduct.
Returning students and graduate students are assigned to trainings designed to continue the conversation of gender-based and sexual misconduct on campus.
Martinez expressed that there is an optional questionnaire and a pre and post test that will explore what a person's views are, and to find out if the trainings were effective for students, faculty and staff. OCRIE will receive a developed report from EverFi to help CMU understand what is working to continue and improve the education and training.
The trainings currently assigned are due by the beginning of the Spring 2021 semester.
