Director of the Office of Student Activities and Involvement Damon Brown is stepping down from his role at CMU and will start a new job at Alma College, effective Sept. 7.

Brown has held his position at CMU since Aug. 2012. A press release from Alma College announced that Brown will serve as the college's next vice president for Student Affairs.

Brown said his time at CMU fostered his growth and development as a professional.

"Sometimes when you grow, you have to leave the nest," Brown said "I think that is what I am doing here, but I am leaving the nest as a prepared professional because of the experiences I have had here at CMU."

Brown has been working at CMU for 23 years. While attending CMU as a graduate student in 1997, Brown worked in campus recreation and student life and involvement.

During his time at CMU, Brown has worked with hundreds of thousands of students and said he always wants them to be the best versions of themselves.

“I am able to be where I am today because someone took an interest in me, someone challenged me and someone helped me grow," he said. "I hope my legacy will be one that shows I was one that cared for students, was student-focused and wanted students to have a great experience."

Brown said that life sometimes has unforeseen plans, but he is prepared to take on this next opportunity.
