A.T. Miller steps down as Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer
Central Michigan University Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer A.T. Miller will step down from his role effective Aug. 31.
CMU President Bob Davies made the announcement today and will name an interim next week, according to a press release from the university. Miller held his position as chief diversity officer since May of 2018 and was the first to hold the position.
“This is not the work of any one person but a continuous comprehensive effort that leads to greater excellence and enhanced skills, knowledge and insight for all,” Miller said in the press release. “It has been great to work with so many enthusiastic collaborators across CMU’s many on-campus and off-campus constituencies.”
Central Michigan Life reached out to Miller for comment on why he departed.
The vice president/chief diversity officer position was created from a recommendation of a 2017 Diversity and Inclusion Task Force and is part of the president's cabinet, according to the press release.
During his time, Miller developed a new Conversations that Matter series to engage campus in dialogues about social and political issues. He also created Diversity, Equity and Inclusion effort reporting for staff in annual performance reviews and an online program for students.
“It’s critical that we continue our work in weaving diversity and inclusion throughout every facet of the university,” Davies said in the press release. “Our next chief diversity officer will continue to ensure that CMU facilitates diversity education and training for our community so that we are able to continue enriching our campus experience and culture for underrepresented students.”
