Kyra Bussell named MAC West Player of the Week
For the third time this season, junior forward Kyra Bussell has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week.
Bussell averaged 18.5 points per game to go along with 8.5 rebounds per game. She shot 5-of-9 from behind the 3-point line (55.6 percent) over the course of the two game week while shooting 12-of-31(42.5 percent) from the field.
Against Kent State on Wednesday, Bussell finished with 12 points and six rebounds and the Chippewas won the game 71-58. On Saturday against Northern Illinois, Bussell earned her fourth double-double of the season with 25 points and 11 rebounds leading the Chippewas to a 70-66 victory.
The Grand Rapids native has thrived in her third season at Central Michigan averaging 14.5 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Bussell has led the team in scoring in multiple games this season and established a new career-high with 33 points against Ohio on Feb. 1.
In the East Division, CeCe Hooks from Ohio claimed the weekly award as she averaged 30.5 points in the Bobcats' games and tied a single-game school record with 41 points against Akron on Saturday.
Bussell has been a big piece of the puzzle for CMU, helping the team to a 21-4 overall record and a 14-0 record in the MAC. The Chippewas have clinched a share of both the West Division title and conference regular season title and will have an opportunity to clinch both outright against Western Michigan on Wednesday.
The game against the Broncos (15-10, 8-6 MAC) will tip off at 7 p.m. in McGuirk Arena.
