President Davies launches 'Presidential Perspectives' blog
President Bob Davies has presided over Central Michigan University for over a year now as the university's 15th president. In an effort to further connect with the university community, Davies has launched his new blog, "Presidential Perspectives."
"We have extraordinary people at CMU, and I see and hear things others might not," Davies said. "I think it’s important to showcase our excellence, and I’m proud to have the opportunity to do so with this blog."
His first post was published Nov. 4, three days before he delivered his first "State of the University" address where Davies discussed enrollment, financial aid and the 2030 strategic envisioning process.
In his first post, Davies outlined his plan with the blog, specifically how he will use it to share his personal stories and observations, information on CMU initiatives, challenges in higher education and spotlight individuals from the university.
Other than some help with editing and posting, the topics and sentiments in the blog belong to Davies. He hopes to post at least twice a month.
"As I mentioned in my "State of the University" address, the landscape of higher education is changing rapidly and these changes will affect the way we operate at CMU," Davies said. "We need everyone to be part of the conversation about how we adapt and respond to our changing environment. The blog will serve as a tool to keep our community informed and connected about the issues we will face together."
In addition to sharing his thoughts, Davies plans to include information that has been posted or shared from other sources, including updates from academic colleges, campus groups and articles from CMU News or Central Michigan Life.
"As you may have noticed, I love my role here at CMU," Davies said. "Part of this role, as CMU’s leader, is to be transparent and ensure our campus community, alumni, partners and supporters know what is happening on a regular basis.
"I want the people of CMU to know me and to know what I am thinking, but it just isn’t possible for me to connect face-to-face with everyone (although I’d like to). This blog is just one of the many ways I’d like to keep in touch with our university community."
