Central Michigan football players react to being one win away from MAC West title
The Central Michigan football team is officially one win away from securing a Mid-American Conference West Division title and a trip to the MAC championship game.
With Western Michigan's 17-14 loss to Northern Illinois, the Broncos have dropped to 5-3 in the conference.
The Chippewas, currently at 5-2, control their own fate. A win against Toledo on Friday at Kelly/Shorts Stadium would lock in a trip to Ford Field for the title game.
Central Michigan was picked to finish last in the conference after a 1-11 season in 2018 under John Bonamego. First-year coach Jim McElwain has the team at 7-4 overall and 5-2 in the MAC.
The last time Central Michigan went to the MAC title game was 2009, which is the same year the Chippewas last earned a win against the Rockets.
It's been a long time coming, and the players on the team are excited for a chance to compete for a championship.
