2020 3-star CB Michael Holmes commits to Central Michigan
Central Michigan has secured a commitment from a 2020 three-star cornerback with 20 offers.
From Camden County in Kingsland, Georgia, Michael Holmes announced his commitment to play for the Chippewas on Monday.
"The people and players made me feel at home instantly," Holmes said.
The 6-foot, 180-pound prospect turned down offers from Appalachian State, Arkansas, Boston College, Campbell, Connecticut, East Carolina, Georgia Tech, Jacksonville State, Liberty, Maryland, Mercer, Middle Tennessee State, Northern Illinois, Oregon State, Savannah State, Southern Miss, Texas A&M, Troy and UAB.
Looking past programs on his list like Arkansas, Boston College, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Oregon State and Texas A&M, Holmes decided to join first-year coach Jim McElwain.
"My heart could never vibe with those schools," Holmes said. "I felt those coaches were selling me my dreams. Not once did a coach at CMU say, 'Michael, you are going to come in and start; you are going to be the guy.' They told me I'm going to have to put in work on the practice field, and that'll determine if I play.
"Honesty means everything."
Defensive coordinator Robb Akey and cornerbacks coach David Rowe were the recruiters that influenced Holmes' decision.
"Coach Akey stayed in contact with me every day, and coach McElwain is one of the most social head coaches I have ever met throughout my recruiting process," Holmes said. "(McElwain) knew every detail about me.
"To me, that meant I was more than a recruit to him."
Holmes took an official visit to Central Michigan on Nov. 22 and committed to join the program just three days later.
The cornerback is ranked No. 1,714 in the nation, No. 143 at his position and No. 166 in Georgia, according to the 247Sports Composite ratings.
Holmes is the 14th commit in CMU's 2020 class:
