Jonathan Ward, Michael Oliver earn weekly Mid-American Conference awards
Jonathan Ward and Michael Oliver have been named Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week in the Mid-American Conference West Division.
Ward compiled 149 all-purpose yards in Central Michigan's 48-10 win over Northern Illinois on Nov. 2 in Kelly/Shorts Stadium. He scored on a 3-yard touchdown to bolster the Chippewas' lead.
The senior running back also contributed 11 yards through the air on three catches. He surpassed the 100-yard mark on the ground for the fifth time in the last six games.
Oliver, a senior linebacker, logged a team-high five tackles and added a key interception off of NIU's Ross Bowers in a stingy defensive effort from the Chippewas. The defense allowed just 22 rushing yards from the Huskies.
Oliver's interception was the first of his career, and he added a 22-yard return.
Central Michigan's win earned it bowl eligibility with a 6-4 overall record. The Chippewas have a bye week before traveling to Ball State on Nov. 16.
